Subject : translucent acrylic over melamine

I'm designing a series of frame-and-panel cabinet doors where the panels will be of 1/16" translucent (colored) acrylic material. In order to keep the material flat and to bring up its color, I want to laminate this material to backer panels of 1/4" white melamine. Glue up will be done in a bag.

Issues:
Up until now I've used only unibond for veneer work, but in this case a clear or white adhesive will be necessary. Would epoxy be a better choice for adhering to these materials? Darryl, is the white catalyst really white when mixed with resin? What kind of surface prep is needed for each adhesive? If epoxy is better, what would be a good product/manufacturer?

Thank You (again)

Adam,

I would actually recommend polyurethane glue spread very thin. Unibond 800 will not adhere well to the acrylic and even epoxy would not be as good as polyurethane. Personally I like the Elmers brand.

I would do a test just to get the feel of using this glue. You will need to scuff sand the acrylic for a good bond. It doesnt have to be a rough grit, 220 will work fine.
