I am planning a chest of drawers with curved fronts 32" long varying in height from 9" to 6". I plan to laminate a 5/8" thick back from 1/8" soft maple into which I would cut through dovetails. I would then overlay the face with a 1/8" veneer of tiger maple covering the fronts of the dovetails to achieve a half blind effect.
1. What would be the recommended radius for these drawers assuming an overall width of the chest of 36"?
2. How should the back be supported while trimming the ends and cutting the dovetails?
3. How should I support the drawer bottom at the front? Cut a slot,if so how?
This my first try at a curved front piece, all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

richard,
some answers: 1. the recommended radius depends opon the design; what's this thing supposed to look like? using 1/8" veneers will however limit your choices. a good rule of thumb when laminating (and that's what i consider what you've described) is to make sure that you can bend the laminates around the form with easy to moderate hand pressure.
2. welcome to the world of building multiple jigs and fixtures to make one part, and then throwing the jigs away. and how will you press the face laminate on after the drawer is built? i'd recommend pressing the whole thing and machining after.
3. slotting cutter with a bearing in your router or router table or shaper. and be careful.
also, most here would steer you away from 1/8 veneer for the face. its awfully thick to remain stable in most situations. as a laminate over solid maple, it may be ok though.
