I've got 6 sheets of that stuff from Certainly Wood...exactly the stuff you are talking about. Each sheet is about 2 1/2 ft by 8 ft.
It's truly amazing stuff.....I haven't used it in a project yet. I have lightly wiped on some alcohol just to see the figure jump. It's AMAZING looking....but honestly, I don't think that there's such thing as too much figure...just don't use it on small panels....use it on bigger panels, where the eye is farther away.
I'm going to use it on panels to make up a foot board and headboard of a bed. This project may not start for a while. I would like to make a king-size bed, but that really won't fit in our present house....I plan on moving in about three years, and then build it.
My opinion....it's great for big panels....but the figure is too wide to be part of a small panel....especially like a marquetry background. If there's any marquetry cut into my makore, it'll be VERY slight, and not distracting to the eye...there's already enough going on with this stuff.
If you buy it, you won't regret it, even if you store it for five years (like me). I just knew that if I didn't buy it, I'd kick myself someday.
