Hi. I'm questioning whether I can get away with using a plastic laminate backer to equalize my application of maple veneer. I'm bandsawing the maple veneer and have no desire to saw veneer for the inside of the cabinet. Haven't decided what substrate I will be applying the veneer to....MDF or plywood. The piece is small and either will work for me. I will use the Uni-800 for the veneer if you can recommend it for 1/16" thick veneers. I'll use multi-purpose adhesive for the plastic. What issue can you forewarn me of - Please and Thanks Mike Jager

Mike,

If its cabinet parts rather than a frameless door you should be OK. I would use the same glue for the plastic laminate as for your 1/16" veneer. Doing this will help balance the panel better than using two different glues. Unibond 800 will adhere fine to plastic laminate as well as work for the 1/16" maple.

Sincerely
