Subject : cyclinder forms

I am having a problem attempting to create a 10" diameter x 28" long cylinder.
Presently, I am using a 10" cardboard concrete form as a cyclinder form with an interior bag to support the form. because I have never attempted this before, I am doing a dry run and this is where the problem arises. I have the external air hose hooked up and I am pre-inflating the bag, but when I start the vacuum everything is fine until the vacuum bag starts to draw down on the form and then it is pulling it egg shaped. BTW. I am tucking the vacuum bag around the cyclinder as far as I can. I was under the impression that an internal bag would equailze the inside of the form and prevent or at least limit the deformation of the cylinder.
So. my questions are

Is the concrete form too weak to causing the deformation?

If so, what do you guys use as a internal form? PVC pipe ? steel? aluminum?

Any assistanance is appreciated I really need to get this step completed so I can move on with this project.

Thanks

Joe

Joe,

The concrete cylinders are not very strong, the slightest imbalance would deform it. Your external hose to the inside bladder, does it stay open to outside air once you inflate it? This is a must. If done right you should not have any deflection.

I usually use wood cylinders myself. I find them good and strong, and easy to work with.
