Subject : Veneer over solid wood?

After becoming a veneering bigot, I just completed my first solid hardwood project in several years. A Honduras mahagony bed for my daughter. I am not happy at all with the poor lumber.

So I am thinking of veneering the rails. 1.125" x 5" x 75" with a 1" cleat running the entire backside. I was wondering if I could cheat and only veneer the faceside with mahagony. Veneering the backside at this point would be difficult due to joinery. Is the only potential for warpage width wise? I only use Unibond 800.

TIA, Carl

Carl,

You'll be fine. The rail is quite thick and only 5" wide, you wont have a problem. It would have to be much wider before I would be concerned.
