Subject : Yet another honeycomb pressing question

Hi Darryl, like the new forum...better than ever.

I am going to make a torsion box with this honeycomb material, using mdf skin and urea resin glue.

Question is can I apply the glue to each face of the mdf, make my sammich, and press all in one operation? Or is it better to adhere one side at a time.

My concern is for the glue on the top piece of mdf...won't it run down the honeycomb and leave the top piece starved?

Thanks.

David,
The glue holds honeycomb partly by direct contact and partly by forming a small fillet along the contact lines. There's no reason to laminate in two steps. The glue will form fillets automatically as soon as the two pieces meet, and surface tension will keep plenty of glue at the lines of contact. Just get the sandwich together as quickly as possible.
If you do decide to press in two steps, make sure to put the second piece of face material over the open side of the honeycomb to prevent the bag from crushing the honeycomb, especially at the outside edges and corners.
Good Luck.
