I am going to venner a group of flat kitchen cabinet doors that have been previously painted. The doors are flat plywood and I'll be using Unibond. I assume I'll need to strip the paint. Anything else special I need to do for a kitchen application?

Joel,

You may be able to get away with aggresive sanding (like 80 grit) and not have to completely strip the paint off. I dont know for sure if it will work but do a test and see if it bonds. Unibond 800 will adhere to a number of different surfaces, its worth a try. If not, then you will have to sand or strip the paint completely off.

If you dont mind working with a somewhat more difficult glue, polyurethane will definately stick to your paint without any prep work. The downside to glueing to a painted surface, whether you use Unibond 800 or polyurethane, is that you are relying on the paint to hold your glued veneer to the door. Your paint has to be very well adhered to hold down the veneer. Again, some testing is in order if you go this route.

Sincerely
