Dear Kagen,Our Compact 100 is designed as a entry level vacuum press for the hobbiest. We use a type of pump that does not need a shut off switch and can run constantly as well as quietly. This helps to keep the price reasonable and yet do quality work. The advantage of a automatic switch is that when the pump reaches full vacuum the switch will shut the motor off until there is a drop in vacuum, this save electricity as well as wear on the pump. The other advantage is that you can turn down the vacuum pressure if needed for certain projects. If you are doing this for a hobby and will use it occasionally I think the Compact 100 would be fine. If you work with wood for a living or are a advanced level hobbiest I recommend a automatic self cycling system.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I am curious about the compact 100 model pump. I have noticed that most pumps: have an automatic shut off at some given point like 25 HG. Does the compact 100 do: this as well? What are the advantages to having an auotmatic shutoff?
