Dear Tim,Trying to come up with some way to pre-bend the veneer into the shape may help but you HAVE to have the veneer back to completely dry before pressing or it may warp even worse.A question, are you flip flopping the veneer on itself as one side of the veneer is called the pulled and the other is called compressed. If you are laying them up at random this may be the problem, especially with 1/16" veneer. You can tell which side is which by looking closely at the suface, one side will be more pitted while the other side will be more raised. You can also bend it back and forth, veneer will bend easier one way over the other: I have been vacuum pressing 1/16" Poplar veneer on a compound curve. : I'm using four sheets of veneer glued with Unibond 800 each turned 90 : degrees from the other. I put it into the press for 18 hours. When I : took the finished plywood off the form it was perfectly curved. : However after 4 to 5 hours the plywood started to distort and cup.: Question : 1. Will veneer flatening compound help me with my problem if I : vacuum pressed the different sheets on my compound curve form without : glue?: 2. Before I heat bend Violin and Guitar sides I soak and steam them : for awile to make them hold the curve. Wuld soaking help?: Any help would be appreciated, I have 90 sheets of 1/16" Poplar and : don't want to discard them.
