Dear Ken,Im not sure Unibond would be the best glue at this point because you already have old glue in the joint. I would be more inclined to use super glue.In the future I would lay down a sub veneer when you have such wide solid wood to veneer over. This sub veneer would have insulated your face veneer from the movement of the solid wood.sincerelyDarryl Keil: Hello Darryl,: I made a half ellipse desk top about two years ago. The center is : walnut burl on PB, 1/4" ebony band around the center, then solid : walnut (1 1/2" wide) around the perimeter. I laid up short grain : walnut veneer on the solid walnut. I negotiated the half elliptical : curve with three bandsawn pieces of wood...the gentle mid section : from stock about 30"long and 4" wide and the tighter left and right : from stock about 5" wide 14" long. The short grain veneer joints have : popped in about 7 locations around the perimeter. Nothing in the : gentle curve and nothing on the straight front edge. Only on the : tight radius curves. I'm assuming it has to do with movement of the : solid walnut substrate in width...I glued it originally with yellow : glue (this is before buying my vacuum press and being introduced to : Unibond)My plan at this point is to rub unibond into the effected : joints one at a time, cover with saran wrap, flat, thick caul and : clamp hard with a manual clamp. My finisher says we may not need to : resand and refinish the top if done carefully. Does this sound like : a reasonable approach? Thanks for you time.
