Darryl,It occurred to me that I should ask you about the 10mmbacked veneer as well as that other question. My reasonfor using it is so I will not have to crossband underthe walnut burl. Am I off base here? Does the paper backed veneer preclude the need for crossbanding? (on MDF)Also, along the same line, can the backed veneer be glueddown with contact cement (curved pieces about 1 sq.ft.in size) If I could use contact cement on these oddly shaped pieces, I may save puncturing my bag trying to press them. I would still use the vacuum press andUnibond on the flat table top if bleed through will notbe too big of a problem. That still leaves my only problembeing how to trim the corners crisply. Thanks for yourhelp. LOVE the forum! Lots of good info here!Dean

Dear Dean,If you are pressing on mdf Im not sure I see the need for a cross banding of any kind. Theadvantage of paper backed veneer is all the seams have been taped for you and there is nobleed through to deal with.As far as contact cement goes, I dont recommend it. The bond is not reliable enough, it mayhold but there is a very good chance it will bubble up or fissure a bit over the long run. I sellmore vacuum pressing because of contact cement failure than any other single reason. As I said in an earlier question, I dont know what your odd shapes look like and only you candecide if you want to make your life easier by using contact cement, but if you want a guaranteed bond I would press it.SincerelyDarryl Keil: : Darryl,: It occurred to me that I should ask you about the 10mm: backed veneer as well as that other question.
