Dear Mick,Although 20psi is not a lot of pressure for conventional cold pressing it should be sufficeint. The real issue is, is the pressure perfectly uniform. If have 100 psi in one spot and 5 psi a fewinches away you wont get good results. So you need to be absolutely sure your 20 psi is evenly distributed. This is one of the main reasons I am a big fan of vacuum pressing, the pressure is not great but it is always perfectly uniform. If you can be sure your pressure is uniform you should be ok.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I need a sanity check since this is my first cold press on a large : surface. I have decided to cold press veneer on my speaker boxes : using urea glue, 1" MDF with angle iron as cauls to distribute : clamping pressure and 10 pipe clamps (five on each side) distributed : equi-distant apart. Largest surface: 12" x 40" or 480 sq.in. Weight : from clamps should equal about 10,000 lbs if I'm right in assuming 20 : lbs psi required for cold pressing. Will this approach work? is 20 : psi correct? : How much weight/force does one hand-tightened pipe clamp provide? : Even an "order of magnitude" response would help. This will help me : when tightening to prevent collapsing my boxes.: My boxes have 1.5" thick sides (3/4" MDF on outside to be veneered : with 3/4" void-free plywood) with lots of bracing so they should : withstand the weight (10,000 lbs, however makes me a little : nervous!). : Thanks in advance for your response.
