Dear Andy,You can do it either way, it would depend on what the edge treatment will be, if any.If you want the veneer to overhang, just do it veneer face down against a caul on top of the platen. This way the veneer cannot be bent over the substrate edge during pressing.I am assuming you are using a vacuum press.I would most likely cut the shape out first and then veneer it, this way you won't have anyband saw chip out, although there should not be much considering the band saw is always cuttingdownward.SincerelyDarryl Keil: Im going to veneer to MDF that will have a odd shape cut out on a band saw. Is it better to: veneer to a rectangle substrate and not have any overhang of the veneer and then cut the whole: thing on the band saw or is it better to cut the substrate to its final shape and then veneer to it.: My fear is if I have overhang at the time of press, the press will pull the edges down and crack the veneer. Does this happen?: So if the MDF is cut first does the veneer also have to have the same shape. Of if I press before cutting will the bandsaw chip : the veneer along the cut line?
