Dear Carl,Having veneer that is cracked and needs to be flattened is a hard combo. If you try totape the split before flattening the tape will just fall off during the flattening process. If you can pull the crack together with veneer tape, I would try this. Get some polyurethane glue, squirt in the crack and tape it up. When the glue dries it will be a waterproof joint and may hold up during the flattening process. I say, "may hold up" because this is a tough one and I cant say for sure. Try it on one piece and see what happens.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I have just acquired some Amburana cearensis crotch veneer. Most of : the pieces have quit a long split down the middle. They are also not : too flat. I would like to flatten them before I cut them to make a : large radial sunburst table. I use Frank Pollaro's home brew formula : of glue, water, glycerin and denatured alochol. I am afraid that : flattening them will make it difficult to close up the split. : So, would it make sense to tape the split BEFORE flattening? What do : the experts do? Should I consider my purchase a write off, and look : for some better stock?
