Frank: I recently saw a segment on "THIS OLD HOUSE" where one of their contractors was talking about vacumm press veneering raised panels over a substrate such as MDF. I was curious about how common veneer would react to the compound curves of a raised panel. Is it possible to vacumm press regular veneers onto compound curves? I would be interested in learning more about how to go about this if this something that can be accomplished with a common veneer press by an avid amatuer.

JerryAlthough I dont do this with my vacuum press I know it can be done. The important thing to remember is the field must be a low profile sweeping shape, a gentle cove. To deal with the compound transition at the corner of the raised panel you can massage the veneer through the bag to have it lay down well. On commercial kitchens this kind of panel is common but they are using a different kind of membrane press to accomplish this.Frank: Frank: I recently saw a segment on "THIS OLD HOUSE" where one of : their contractors was talking about vacumm press veneering raised : panels over a substrate such as MDF.
