How would you fill a tabletop that has both a dark wood in the center such as mahogany and an outer crossbanding of a very light wood such as satinwood or ash??

Dear Rick,The way I always fill the grain of differnt colored veneers is with the finish itself. I use conversion varnish which is a high solids finish.I lay down about three heavy coats, let them dry and sand back down to the wood. This usually fills the grain and then I go about finishing as normal. The other way is to use epoxy as a grain filler, but sanding it back down to the veneer can be a bit of work. The final results is excellent though.SincerelyDarryl Keil: How would you fill a tabletop that has both a dark wood in the center : such as mahogany and an outer crossbanding of a very light wood such : as satinwood or ash??
