I attached 1/2" thick solid red oak edging to MDF prior to veneering (I beveled the edging, and then veneered over everything). The problem is that some time later the normal movement of the edging made a joint line visible through the veneer. Are there any tricks to avoid this other than applying the edging after the MDF is veneered?

Dear Bill,There are two solutions to this problem. One is to put a backer veneer under your face veneer, this will insulate it from showing any movement. The other thing is to make sure you glue onyour edging with a rigid glue like urea resin or epoxy. If you used a white or yellow glue toattach your edging you may be seeing the cold creep of the glue more than anything. A rigidglue will usually solve this.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I attached 1/2" thick solid red oak edging to MDF prior to veneering : (I beveled the edging, and then veneered over everything).
