Dear Rick,I only flatten a veneer when I absolutely have to, its rather time consuming and a royal painin my opinion. My rule, is when pressing the veneer will crack and split it, thats when I flatten. Also, when I have to tape a number of pieces together and the seam is to wavy to draw tight, thats another situation I go to a flattening solution.Since it sounds like the veneer will press OK without flattening, I would skip it.SincerelyDarryl Keil: Can I go directly to glueing (pressing) the mahogany burl to a : substatrate without flattening first or is it better to flatten first : then glue?? The burl has its share of ripples but could probably be : pressed without cracking. I do not have a vacuumn press I just use : cauls and clamps, lots of clamps. The flattening solution I have is : from Flamingo venneers.
