Dear Craig,3/8" bending ply is a great material for curved doors, but in a 10" radius you may have a bit of spring back. For a door at this radius I recommend a material for bending called 1/8" Italian bending poplar. It will handle the tighter radius better and the additional layers need to achieve 3/4" will keep it from springing back. I also recommend you use a rigid type glue like epoxy or a urea resin glue like Unibond 800. The rigidity of these glues will help hold the radius to the demension you desire. If you decide to try it with 3/8" bending ply be sure to use a cross band veneer between the two sheets of bending ply as well as a backer veneer on the front and back side of your door beneath the face veneers. These extra veneers will help hold the radius better and the two backer veneers will insulate the coarseness of the bending ply from telegraphing through to your face veneer. This is unnecessary with 1/8" bending ply as its surface is quite smooth.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I would like to make some veneered curved cabinet doors. My question : is what to use as a substrate. Will two laminated sheets of 3/8" : wiggle wood be ridgid after laminating in a vacuum bag? If not, what : sort of flexible material should I use to laminate a 3/4" curved : panel? The material needs to be flexible enough to bend around a 10" : radius, but be ridgid after being laminated. Thanks for your help.
