Thanks for the great forum. I am building a bed (84" x 90") out of 1" Finn Birch marine grade Ply with a 6" strip of paper backed walnut veneer around the perimeter of 3 sides (top). I would like to glue a 6" strip of 1" Finn Birch around the perimeter as well to give more support and visual massing. I am planning on leaving the ply edges exposed and using a welded steel frame as further support for the whole thing rides on big casters. my question is what is the best way to laminate all these together, do I need another layer of veneer/paper on the bottom to balance the top veneer or is the 1" ply enough or too much? Should I glue the two 1" plys together first or veneer then under ply. I have alot of experience with contact cement would that be appropriate for the veneer or will it degrade the veneer prematurely. Thanks for any help in advance.Kyle

Dear Kyle,I cant say I completely understand the look of what you are trying to do but I will say this. In what sequence and when you apply the walnut veneer to your 6" strip is not that important as it is not that wide to really have much effect on the entire bed frame. You will also get more lasting results using regular wood glue instead of contact cement. Since your gluing area is only 6" wide, I assume clamping it should not be a problem.sincerelyDarryl Keil: Thanks for the great forum.
