Subject : Veneering large panel

Hello Darryl:I am veneering a three-quarter inch thich furniture-grade plywood piece, 31 by 38 inches. Only the front will ever be seen. Can I get away with bonding a sheet of one-quarter inch AA ply to back or must I use backer veneer? Will the piece warp if I do not glue something to the back?ThanksKevin

Dear Kevin,Sorry for the late response, I have been out of town.If you want a flat panel, veneer both sides. Do not put 1/4" material on the back, that would make it warp even worse. Whether the warp you will get from veneering only one side is exceptable, only you can say. In general, the bigger the panel the worse the warpage. If its going to be fixed and screwed in place you may be able to get away veneering just one side. If its a door, dont do it. My opinion is always veneer both sides. The time you save is not worth the risk of a panel too warped to work with.SincerelyDarryl Keil: Hello Darryl:: I am veneering a three-quarter inch thich furniture-grade plywood : piece, 31 by 38 inches.
