I have created a convex mold at a radius of 17' for a banjo back/bowl I am making. Can I press the veneer without a caul, or should I create a mating concave caul to press the Poplar and face veneers? Thanks

Dear Tim,I think you can get away without a caul in this situation. Since your piece is a compound curve it would be difficult to make a perfectly mating top caul. I assume that it is rather small which should help it work. If you massage the veneer right through the bag as it is pulled down I think you can get it. Try some sample scraps to see how it goes first.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I have created a convex mold at a radius of 17' for a banjo back/bowl : I am making.
