I've never veneered before, but think it's going to be fun! I have a four-piece crotch panel that I'd rather not mess up.1. To clean chalk, sanding grit, etc. before flattening, what's the best to use: water, mineral spirits, lacquer thinner, etc.?2. I was going to use glycerin to flatten it, but your flattening/sizing "recipe" is tempting (and scary). Is this a one-time shot, i. e., if the crotch isn't flat the first time, can this be redone? I realize if pressed correctly, it should get flat, but I want to make sure I saturate it enough, and so forth. Also, any problems with the glue "recipe" causing the window screen to stick to veneer itself?3. I've heard it's good to use water-catalyzed urea (like DAP's Weldwood) on crotch for pressing because it helps in flattening, then I've heard it's bad because it causes curling and bleeds through more, or is more likely to be absorbed by the substrate and starve. What do you think? Thanks in advance. I appreciate you and this great forum!

Dear Paul,First, dont worry about cleaning up the veneer prior to flattening, that will all be taken care of when you scrape and sand later.Second, you can do it again, but I have never had to and I doubt you will either. Just saturate the veneer thoroughly with the solution. The screen will not stick.Last, once you have flattened the veneer with the solution you definately want to use urea as the glue to press with (powdered or liquid type). It will not help or hinder the pressing of the veneer.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I've never veneered before, but think it's going to be fun!
