Dear Don,You glue the paper side to the substrate and since the pieces are so narrow there is no reason not to clamp and glue with a regular yellow or white glue. Wood glue always hold better than contact cement, even if your not a purist.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I came across some paper backed veneer recently that I plan to use on : a project but I have no significant veneering experience (I did a : veneered table top about 15 years ago that cured me from veneering : for many years). I plan to glue the veneer to the rough dimensioned : substrate (claro walnut) and then machine to final dimensions and : route the edges which will leave the veneer as a raised area with the : cut away walnut edges showing for contrast. The parts are only 2 or : 3 inches wide so gluing and clamping shouldn't be a problem without a : press. My questions are:: 1. do I glue the veneer side to the substrate and sand away the : paper or glue the paper side to the substrate (amatuer questions are : a bit embarassing): 2. I know purists don't use contact cement for veneering, but with : such small surfaces, will it really be a problem? What glue would be : recommended if not contact cement?: Thanks
