Subject : Minimum radius for bending plywood

I am designing a new piece of furniture and would like to use a 6 inch radius. I need this radius to have some strength. A quick test, by bending some 3/8" bending luan reveals some cracking. So should I try to get a thinner bending ply? What are the minimum radii that other folks have been succssful with, and what sort of laminations have been used?

Dear Carl,If you want to use 3/8" bending ply you could sand out the slight faceting you will get around the radius and then put a backer veneer over it before you apply your face veneer. The other option is to use 1/8" bending poplar which is quite nice and will eliminate the problem you get with the 3/8" material. I have gotten down to about a 3 1/2" radius with the 1/8" bending ply.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I am designing a new piece of furniture and would like to use a 6 : inch radius.
