Dear Matthew,If you want to do it right and have the veneer stay put you will need some kind of a press and either yellow glue or urea resin glue. You will not achieve enough pressure from weights to get a sucessful pressing. A vacuum press which is not even a high pressure press puts down almost a ton per square foot. You would be hard pressed to achieve that with weights. A vacuum press would be your simplest option.SincerelyDarryl Keil: Hello, I am new to wood working and am trying to learn all I can by : reading and asking questions before I jump into projects. My : question is....if I want to apply a veneer on a 4x4 flat surface for : example, do I need a vaccuum press or bag for this? Again I do not : have any tools for this.....to perform simple tasks such as what I : have asked about do I need to buy the pumps, bags, special glues, : etc..... Can I just use regualr yellow glue and put something heavy : and flat on the top of the glued veneer to let it set up on the base : piece? Can I buy another glue and do this rather than yellow glue?
