Darryl, could you explain the typical instances of why and when a backer veneer is used directly under a face veneer? Does it have anything to do with preventing glue from coming thru the face? Thank you.

Dear James,Backer veneer is mainly used to protect the face veneer from anything is the substrate that might negatively affect it. If there is any joints in the substrate or an edging, veneering over this could show a crack in the veneer down the road. Some substrates like 3/8 bending ply are too coarse to veneer directly to. Backer veneer is basically an insulator for your face veneer when needed.SincerelyDarryl Keil: Darryl, could you explain the typical instances of why and when a : backer veneer is used directly under a face veneer?
