Emanuel,Your torsion box idea should work fine, I would make one modification. Instead of putting 1/4" on the top side put the 5/8" material on the top side with the 1/4" only on the bottom. You will still need to cover the 5/8" material with a sheet of plastic laminate so it doesnt need to be melamine coated.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I have just received my 4'x8' "Flip-Top Kit" and in looking at the : included instructions for the support frame I have a question in : regards to an alternative to the 2x6 frame.: I have a small shop and floor space is my concern, such that my plan : was to construct the Frame and table and hinge it on a wall. When not : in use it would be up to the wall and take up maybe a foot in depth : as compared to the 5'x 9' footprint of the full press down when in : use. Going along with this idea, I was going to make a torsion box : for the frame,to keep it light. A 1x3 Douglas Fir grid on 6 inch : spacing, glued and screwed with skins of 1/4 inch MDF. A 5'x9', 5/8" : thick sheet of melamine would be the top surface of the pressing : table. Grid board as per your instructions.: Any comments as to strength, and primarily the flatness and : effectiveness of the alternative would be appreciated.: Thanks: Emanuel Leimanis
