David,Don't use two ply, just veneer directly onto the solid wood. The only restriction is the veneer needs to go in the same direction as the solid. This way both the veneer and the solid wood can expand and contract together. The two ply would restrict this, although with your fairly narrow width it would not be a major problem, it's just unnecessary.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I am going to make a bed (headboard, footboard, and rails) and wood like: to use solid wood for the rails for strength. They will be on the: order of 6-8" wide, probably 5/4 or 6/4 thick and 82" long. I was: thinking of maple or poplar for their availablity, strength, and cost.: I will need to veneer them with mahogany to match the rest of the bed.: I can get 2-ply mahogany veneer. Is this the best bet? Or should I: use regular veneer and a crossbanding? Any other suggestions?: Thanks
