Subject : light weight MDF and securing screws

I am building a toy box out of light weight MDF and have a problem with the hinge screw popping out. They do not want to grab the MDF. Any suggestions??

Drill a hole larger than the screw and glue in a wood dowel. Depending on the MDF thickness and screw size a 1/4" dowel can be plenty. Then carefully predrill and set the screw into the dowel
