Paul,I have never had any problems with black spots when flattening walnut so I can only speculate on the problem. Did you change the paper every 2 or 3 hours? By the third changing the veneer is already on its way to become medium dry. In that short a time its somewhat unlikely that mold would form. The other thought I had was the possibility of some iron in your solution or on the veneer. Any iron that got on wetted walnut would produce black spots. You also may find that the black spots will sand out anyway. Test it out on a sample.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I recently flattened some figured black walnut with a typical white : glue, water, alcohol and glycerin solution. After the first day in : the press small black spots appeared on the veneer. It almost looks : like mold. I have not had any previous problems with the same : solution on other veneers. Did the solution reactivate mold in the : veneer that wasn't visible, possibly from improper veneer storage? : Could the solution have gone bad or is it the walnut? Any thoughts : would be appreciated.: Thanks: Paul
