Subject : Veneering Drums - The Seam

May seem a bit remedial, but I will be covering some cylindrical drum shells - since I'm a beginner and done have the tools, I plan on using a 3M adhesive paper backed maple veneer. Questions:- what is the best way to finish the seam? is it the wrap the shell and then do the overlap and cut through on both ends?- Also, assuming there is a bit of a gap, is there a wood filler product that you would recommend. The shells will not be stained, just finished in a high gloss water-based poly (natural maple). Thanks

Jeff,If you cut through both layers on a slight angle you will get a very tight seam, no need for filler. Try it a couple of times on a sample to get the feel.SincerelyDarryl Keil: May seem a bit remedial, but I will be covering some cylindrical drum : shells - since I'm a beginner and done have the tools, I plan on : using a 3M adhesive paper backed maple veneer.
