Subject : Different Kind of Paper-Backed Veneer?

Hi, today I tried to find the paper-backed veneer and found two kind of paper in the back. They come in two different size - 10" x 99" and 24" x 99". The small roll comes with a very fine/thin paper in the back (which seems reasonable) but the big one with a pretty thick paper which seems to be able to be peeled off easily! Since I need the bigger size, I am wondering if the ones with thick paper is OK or not. Do I just apply glue (contact cement or yellow glue) right on the thick paper? Please note that I am located in Toronto, Canada (The place that I went to is Fair Bank Lumber. Canadian Home Depot only carries the small size - 10" x 99"). If any Canadian friend knows of a better place to source the veneer, please drop me a note. Thanks for any inputs. Raymond

Raymond,I suggest you talk to the people at oakwoodveneer.com. Paper backed veneer is their specialty and they can answer your questions about the backing. They may even be able to recommend a Canadian source for paper backed veneer. As far as glue, yellow glue is by far a better option if you have a way to press it. If you end up using contact cement, a coat on both the paper and the substrate is required. Maybe two coats on the substrate if its real absorbent.SincerelyDarryl Keil: Hi, today I tried to find the paper-backed veneer and found two kind : of paper in the back.
