I was wondering if one could press thicker veneers on one side of a substrate that on the other. The substrate is two pieces of MDF. One 3/4" piece stacked and glued to a piece of 1/2" to make up 1 1/4". Dimensions are approx 24" by 50". There are four pieces this size. I have shop sawn figure Bigleaf Maple that will be sanded to approx 1/16". The whole top will have a 3 1/2" by 1 1/4" border glued to the outside edge. My question is this. If I press commercial paper backed veneer to the bottom side can I expect it to warp my substrate from uneven movement.

Rick,It's all a matter of degrees and in the end it depends on how the panel is used. If it's going to be a free swinging door Im much more particular about balance than and end panel thats fixed into place.Your panel is not all that big which would make me less concerned about the imbalance and the panel is quite thick which will help resist warping. My big concern is that the two core pieces are different thicknesses, I suggest you make them equal. The other thing is, I dont know if these panels are for you or a customer. If if its for you, give it a try, you can always live with a little warpage( it wont be that much). If its for a customer, I dont think its worth having it possibly come back in a year. Resaw some other species for the back and be confident it will stay flat.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I was wondering if one could press thicker veneers on one side of a : substrate that on the other.
