I am new to veneering, actually , I have not tried it yet, but I am going to. What I am very curious about is veneering the edges of the work. The books that I have read do not seem to spend alot of time on the subject and cove it rather casually. Is it that it is just that simple? Pieces and pictures that I have seen have the edges blended perfectly with the front and back of the piece. how is this accomplished? And, is the technique/techniques diffenent for thicker or band sawn veneers? thank you to whoever can shed some light on this subject for me or perhaps point me to a source that covers this subject in more detail.

Perry, I edge my pieces last because I always make my pieces larger than I need and cut them to size after their veneered just in case the veneer slips a little during my pressing. Then I set my piece on some blocking to lift it off the bench, spread white or yellow glue on the edge of my piece with a brush, then place my veneer, that I have cut oversized to allow for slipping, on the glue, back it up with a clamping caul, wich is any strip of wood at least 3/4 thick and as wide as my veneer, and start clamping from the center of my piece until the whole edge is clamped. After the glue has dried several hours, I'll remove the clamps and trim the veneer, then do the next edge repeating the process untill all edges are on. The same process is done for the thicker edges as well. Try a few practice pieces first and you'll see just how easy it really is. Good luck, John.
