Does anyone have first hand knowledge of the Virutex Edge/Lip planer? I'm told it can plane down a hardwood edge flush to the veneer panel without damaging the veneer. It's a hand held planer that sells for $450 so anything you can tell me would be appreciated.

I have the Virutex lipper and have used it many times. It works very well, although it takes some practice to avoid gouging. Since it rides on the surface, the surface must be absolutely flat for good results. The blades are by necessity unguarded on the bottom, and its easy to cut into the power cord as you're going around a piece. It works very well on lips around veneered surfaces, a little less well on HPL, where its very easy to take the top layer of plastic off. The height of cut is adjustable. A good tool if you're doing a lot of solid edges.
