Subject : Pinking of Maple using Titebond II
Posted : 2002-04-23 5:55 PM
Post #29095

I have been using Titebond II for a while to glue veneer on to a substrate, but have noticed that the maple, (curly and birds eye) have all stated to Pink when finished with Laquer. SO I have started using the Cold press veneer. Which works! But the color of the dark brown glue doesn't go too well with light maple. Has anyone had the same problem and what glue are you using now.ThanksAndrew

Dear Andrew,The pink color you get with Titebond II on maple is most likely from the cross linker which gives this glue its waterproof rating, thats why you dont get it with the cold press glue. For a lighter glue line just use a regular yellow glue which may not have the thickener in it for the bleed through but if you are careful with the amount of glue you use there should not be much of any bleed through on maple. Even if you get a little its easily scraped and sanded out.: I have been using Titebond II for a while to glue veneer on to a : substrate, but have noticed that the maple, (curly and birds eye) : have all stated to Pink when finished with Laquer.
