Roger,I would not recommend the dremmel tool but a laminate trimmer or smaller router is fine. You just wont be able to do as many sheets of veneer at once.As far as veneer thickness, there is really not much you can do about it. Veneers are continually being cut thinner, 1/40th is now average. Sometime you may run across some older inventory which is thicker but not very often. Some veneers are cut a little thicker, like the common species, but exotics and figured woods are usually cut on the thinner side. This issue is a frustration for all of us. Once again maximizing profit rules.SincerelyDarryl Keil: : I decided to try my hand at veneering and purchased a Compact 100,: along with Darryl's two videos. The first video demonstrates how: to trim veneer using a jig and handheld router. My plunge router: is heavy and unwieldy and I'd like to know if it is reasonable to: use a smaller laminate trimmer to prep veneer (or a Dremmel tool).: My second question is on veneer thickness. My primary objective for: learning how to veneer is to construct a dining table using a highly: figured wood veneer. I just purchased some veneer off Ebay and it's: about 1/40th of an inch thick (didn't measure, but it's quite thin).: How thick should a veneer be for such a table, given it's going to : see a lot more use say than a decorative demilune table. Is 1/40th : reasonable to use, or should I shop for thicker veneer (if so, who: carries this?).: Thanks in advance for any input/suggestions.: Roger
