I would try to soften and conform the veneer to the curves before I jointed the two pieces. I assume the top has been removed from the body. I would treat the veneer with a glycerin solution as previously discussed in this forum and then place the veneer on the top so that the ends overlap enough to allow no gaps over the solid top. Use thin plastic film to protect the top, and surround the veneer with newsprint or paper towels. Gently and progressively weight the veneer with sand bags, and let it dry. Then mark out, cut, and trim the joint. Tape it and you're ready to glue. Yellow glue, Unibond, or epoxy should work if the top surface is properly prepared. Good luck.: I have a Les Paul guitar that has a "carved" solid maple top. I : would like to veneer the top using a vacuum bag with bookmatched, : flame maple veneer (1/43 inch). How can I join the bookmatched edges : of the two pieces of thin veneer then make it soft enough to conform : to the compound curved surface and simultaniously glue it down (also : what type of glue should I use)? I know it's been done before but I : can't find any info on it. Thanks
