Don,I include the bottom caul in my sandwich even if it is oversized. That way the bottom side veneer is pinned between the bottom caul and substrate and cannot curl. I never have the masking tape come in contact with the veneer its just on the cauls.SincerelyDarryl Keil: Using yellow glue, this morning I applied flat cut cherry veneer to 3/4" plywood. Had oversized bottom caul I put on : the platen. Applied glue to one side of the substrate, laid on top of backer veneer, applied glue to the other side of the : substrate, laid on the face veneer. Laid on 1/4" top caul, then started taping the sandwich together in several places so : veneer wouldn't shift as sandwich slid into vacuum bag. Backer veneer was already trying to buckle, started to wonder if the : masking tape would keep the backer veneer from flattening completely. Would it be advisable in future to always include : bottom caul in taped sandwich? Thanks.
