Don,1/4" skins will be fine. I would use at least 3/4 honeycomb for the core. The ultimate would be two layers of 1/2 or 3/4 honeycomb with a layer of 1/8 in between. Using the vacuum press to make your panel and getting it perfectly flat is somewhat difficult. You could draw a light vacuum on the panel, just enough to hold it together, then using straight 2x4's clamp the panel to your work table (bag and all) until it all looks straight and true, then run the vacuum up to full pressure. The other option is take your panel to someone with a hot press and let them press it up for you.SincerelyDarryl Keil: As soon as I get comfortable using my new vacuum press, I'd like to make an extremely flat light weight 4' x 8' work surface : that I could get out and lay on my 3' x 7' work table top when veneering. Does it matter what thickness of your resin : impregnated honeycomb I use? Would 1/4" birch plywood skins be strong enough? And most puzzling, how do I make this : new work surface dead flat? Thanks.
