Your working in a vacuum video is excellent! I should have got the first video as well. I have a couple of questions. How to flatten veneer, I understand the mixture, a little lost on the process though. What can I use as a press 2 pieces of mdf would be quite heavy to push in & out. Also if I use 2 ply veneer and wrap it around a drum, will a veneer slicer cut thru 4 layers to make a seem. I was planning on using a saw, but I saw how easy you sliced thru the veneer on the cylinder. Thanks a lot for the help you have given me, I can see I am already hooked on veneering and plan on doing many projects.

Mike,Thanks for the positive feedback on the video. I have include the flattening formula process from the first video.Although the veneer cutter can cut the two ply I dont think the blade sticks out enough to cut through two layers of two ply. This is one of the rare instances where a utility knife will work. Even if the blade wanders a little it will wander through both layers of two ply so the seam will still match. After I cut the seam on a two ply I back bevel it just a small amount with a block plane. This makes the joint visually nice and tight. As far as pressing the veneer for flattening, try a couple of cinder blocks. If thats not enough park you car on it, choose a front tire, there's more weight near the engine. Flattening doesnt require as much pressure as pressing does.SincerelyDarryl KeilVENEER FLATTENING FORMULAMix Together:2 parts white or yellow glue3 parts water1 part glycerin1 part denatured alcohol1. Mix all components together thoroughly and apply to both sides of the veneer liberally.2. Let soak for a minute or two3. Place veneer between fiberglass window screen (both sides) and add 2-3 layers ofnewspaper on top of the screen. You may continue by adding more newspaper, screen, veneer, etc., stacking as high as you like. Flip each veneer end for end so the wavy partsare not all in the same spot.4. Place this "sandwich" in your veneer press with a caul on top (1/4" minimum.) andapply full pressure.5. Change the newspaper 3 times the first day and leave under pressure overnight.6. On the second day remove the sandwich from the press and take away the screen, it isno longer needed, as the veneer will not stick to the newspaper anymore.7. Change the newspaper 3 times this day but do not put the sandwich in the press, justplace weight on top of the caul to hold the stack down. It is easy to think this second dayis unnecessary since the veneer will feel fairly dry, but it is not dry enough to press. Thisextra day is important for good final results.8. On the third day the veneer is ready to use. If you do not use it immediately the veneerwill stay flat for months provided a board is placed on top of the veneer stack, apply lightpressure. Newspaper between the veneer is unnecessary at this point
