Subject : Veneering a boat transom

I have a 16' sailing dory that I would like to veneer the transom. The transom is basicly a triangle with two 4' sides staggarded with planking and a 2' arc at the top. One thought I had is a plastic sheet attached to the boat's hull, though if a sealant like tape or silicon would hold up under vacuum, I don't know. My intention is to use an epoxy as the adhesive. Any and all suggestions welcome. Thanks Paul

Paul,To vacuum press on site you can create a sealed area by taking regular 6mil poly and duct tape it smoothly around the edges. Cut a hole for the vacuum connection and make sure your pump is large enough to compensate for leaks that will be unavoidable. Do a dry run to make sure everything sucks down tight. You dont need much pressure with epoxy so even 5-10HG will be enough.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I have a 16' sailing dory that I would like to veneer the transom. : The transom is basicly a triangle with two 4' sides staggarded with : planking and a 2' arc at the top.
