David,All three choices are acceptable, although 2-ply and phenolic backed would be more fool proof. Basically you are choosing a veneer that is backed with some material. Phenolic and 2-ply have a stiffer backing material which would eliminate any possibilities of bubbles or lifting. The stiffer materials can even span small areas of poor adhesion without any telegraphing to the face veneer. Since you are choosing a backed veneer why not choose one with that is stiffer and stronger.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I am about to lay up a 48" x 108" table top, plain-sliced cherry on: 3/4" MDF. I also need to make quarter-round edges with radii of 3: 1/2" and 2 1/2". I have the option of using paper-backed, 2-ply, or: even phenolic-backed veneer. I am using a home-made vaccuum press: which reaches between 18-24 inches of mercury and a white glue from: Jowat made specifically for cold pressing.: Any thoughts about the advantages/disadvantages of any of these veneer: backer options? (Whichever I use, I will put the same thing on the: back side for balance.)
