Hi there, I was wondering what the process for veneer complex shapes is? For instances, I've seen remarkable veneering in vehicles on steering columns, shift knobs, dashes etc. I'm not reffering to imitation veneering but actual wood. Check out http://www.rau-autowood.com/rroc.htm for some examples. Thanks

Roy,Veneering complex shapes can and usually is very difficult. There is no way I can explain all the ways it is done on this forum. Sometimes lightly wetting and massaging the veneer as it is being drawn down will do the trick, this technique is used specifically with a vacuum press. Also you can cut the veneer and fit pieces together as well as cutting darts in it. The process you use really depends on the shape and the species of veneer. I recommend playing around to see what the veneer does on different shapes. It's a real trial and error learning process. I know the company you mention in your post. He does use a vacuum press to get those shapes.SincerelyDarryl Keil: Hi there, : I was wondering what the process for veneer complex shapes is?
