I am about to start my second, but much larger, veneering project, kitchen and bathroom cabinets with birdseye maple veneer over baltic birch plywood for drawer fronts and over MDF for door panels. I do not plan to stain the veneer but to apply only a clear lacquer finish. From reviewing messages in the forum, staining of maple can be a problem and limiting the glue amount to eliminate bleed-through is recommended. Would you also recommend the use of the white catalyst for Unibond 800 (the glue I will be using)?

Keith,Definately use the white catalyst when veneering maple. I also recommend a few test so you get the feel of enough glue for good bonding but not to much so you end up with bleed through. You may get a little spotting at the eyes, that should be OK.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I am about to start my second, but much larger, veneering project, : kitchen and bathroom cabinets with birdseye maple veneer over baltic : birch plywood for drawer fronts and over MDF for door panels.
