What is your best source for veneers? I don't mean the most exotic woods available, but a good quality selection for a fair price.

At the Wood Working Show there was a place called Veneer Specialties, or something like that, I bought some from them, but can't find their number anymore. They were selling veneer for $20 bucks a bundle. Anyone know who this might be and how to contact them to order more?

Thanks

Certainly Wood is my favorite.

They have both, amazing selection on exotics and domestics, as well as good prices.

I've bought veneer off Ebay and have been very satisfied. You may not find many exotics (there are some) there but the prices are good and the sellers great. I won't buy unless the seller has a high rating. If you want to email me I can tell you who I've had good experiences with.

I don't remember the name of the guy. It was at the St Paul Woodworking show at the Xcel Energy Center last month.

I've had good dealings with B&B Speciality Hardwoods. Their
website is:

http://www.wood-veneers.com/index1.htm

Nice people, great veneer. The website has cans of each type of veneer, and can prepare scans of particular flitches.

Are they still in business? The URL doesn't work (it is for sale) and the Syracuse yellow pages has no listing for them. Is the URL you gave correct?

Many thanks,

Dave

Apparently, Craig and Custom One Veneers have moved on to greener pastures. I had heard good things other than here, so that seems to be too bad. Looks like the domain name was snapped up by a reseller when it expired last November. I will see if I can get hold of someone that knows him and find out if he is still in the business.

Tom,

I bought several stacks for $20.00 each at the woodshow in Chicago from Veneer Specialties. There number on my receipt is 260-726-2158. They are located in Portland, Indiana.

Tom, Try Certainly Wood. They have always exceeded my expectations in their veneer service and they stock the solids to match.

I cut my own. The commercial veneers I have seen are so thin that it is difficult to do much sanding without going through to the substrate. By using shop cut veneers I can cut to about 3/32" thickness, glue, and finish sand to a little under 1/16". This leaves plenty of stock for refinishing at a later date, too.

Don't overlook Berkshire Veneer in Gt. Barrington, MA. Ben and Mike will take care of all tour needs... quality, price and service.
