I recieved a flitch of curly Anigre veneer last week. This is my first exposure to this species of veneer, and it is very pretty.
I happen to notice that it looked very much like some curly maple I had, and when I laid them side by side, they were really close in color and grain.
Have any of you run into this before? Or is it possible the vendor mislabled or shipped me the wrong stuff ??
Like I said, its very nice and I will do something with it, but I am just wondering if its the right stuff.

Thanks
Dave

Dave,

I've never seen any anigre that looks like curly maple. curly sycamore maybe but even that has tell tale "rays" that set it apart.

anigre is golden yellow. it would also seem odd that the supplier screwed up but stranger things have happened. theres really no advantage to the supplier dollars wise to do the old switch-aro. both species are valuble
from a money stand point. can you post a photo?

I agree with Craig.

The anigre that I've worked with is nothing like maple.

See this table....

The background is anigre.

The one on the left is suppose to be the Anigre.

Thanks
Dave

Hi dave,

the one on the left is definetly anigre. the maple on the right is not eastern white maple but rather pacific maple which is a little golder in color. probably what threw you off.

but again, the left is definetly anigre

All of the veneer I've gotten in single slice (not stitched) flitches looked like that. The grain lines are the biggest difference between it and maple, I think. I have some that's stitched into 3' wide sheets and it isn't as grainy, or as curly.

BTW, this is my first post and I'm brand new to veneering. I've only done two projects and both were done with contact cement. Now I have a vacuum press.

when I left click nothing happens. It's not highlighted like your photo.
When I right click I get an option for a yahoo search but still nothing.
