For all you sick and twisted minds like myself that have wondered what would happen to something of flesh and blood put in a vacuum press, there is now a book written about this very subject. Its called "Under the Manhattan Bridge" by Irene Marcuse.

A number years ago Irene called me to say she was writing a mystery novel where someone was murdered by a vacuum press. It turned out her husband had one of my vacuum presses which inspired her to write it into the plot as the murder weapon. She had called me to find out what would happen to the body at full vacuum in a VacuPress bag. She wanted to be as realistic as possible. In full gory detail I happily conveyed what I understood the resulting effects to be.

A few years went by and I heard nothing more from Irene so I concluded the book never materialized. Then last week two copies of the book arrived by mail. I immediately read the murder scene chapter to my empolyees and two children. My boys thought is was very cool.

So for those of you who have wondered but knew better you can now read about it.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil

I hate to admit it, but I thought about it. I guess I watch to many horror movies. Does this mean you will have to do background checks on future customers?

Couple of questions / Concerns:

Has anyone actually tested the theory on a real test subject such as a big rat to see how accurate her account is or is it simply theory?

Also is there now any concern that this is a device that could be used by extremist terrorists now that the secret of this new weapon is out of the bag? (Pun intended)

Did she put any veneer on her victim prior to putting him in the bag and if so what kind of glue do you recommend for this application?

Sorry but this idea really demanded these sort of questions.

Scott,

Since you brought up the questions I think you should do the tests and let us know the results. I don't know if Unibond will stick to flesh but it sure does stick to my cloths.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil

Well, I don't know about a vacuume, buy I've thought about death by drinking a quart of varnish. Yea, you'd die, but at least you'd have a fine finish. Death by vacuum, now that would just plain suck!

OK, I feel better now. Back to my accounting.

FWIW, I found a page on the effects of a vacuum on the human body.

Unibond has formaldehyde in it. That couldn't hurt.

i checked that out at amazon,,,,freekin bizarre man.
ca'mon, who woulda thought that there was actually a book about it? ok,sure, someone would or has done it. but a book?? and why would someone do it that way?? i see nothing to be gained useing that method.
if ya wanna suffocate a person,,,lots of easier ways.
if ya jus want to kill them,,, innumerable ways.

in a coffin with a small oxigin bottle, enough for a few extra days,,that way, they would be alive longer to suffer. dead is dead,no punishment. getting closer and closer by the hour,,,now thats the way to do it.
ok, enough of this nonsense.
oh.one more thing.
when ya bury them alive,,bury them in a state/national park way off the trail. its doubtful they will be putting a house in there any time soon,so by the time the body turns up,youll be long dead as well.
oh, and not in a park you have to pay to enter,or that you've gone to a bunch of times.

this can go on and on. im done

I really hate to say it, but death by vacuum occurs every day in animal shelters. Putting away 3 or 4 million unwanted animals each year with a shot gets expensive. A vacuum pump and a few cents worth of electricity gets the job done. I'm not an animal rights person, but I find this practice particularly disturbing.

end or rant.
